Galley and Saloon remodel

When we purchased Pau Hana in Nov 2020 we did so knowing that we were going to make some pretty significant changes to the inside of the vessel. Jason has been working tirelessly for the past several months on updating our galley and saloon and it’s looking amazing!! He was able to meet all of our goals while keeping the main integrity of the galley intact. We had several pain points Jason was trying to address and he pretty much fixed them all.

  1. Improved counter space - this was probably my biggest issue with the old galley. The counters were low (~30”) and there just wasn’t enough space. They were also in horrible condition with gouges and stains. He raised the counters about 4” and increased the depth by about 6”. He used Stonecoat countertop epoxy for this amazing professional looking and very durable finish.

  2. Remove old propane stove - While I love propane, I did NOT like the 3 burner stove and oven in our galley. It was set on a gimbal which made it almost impossible to keep the area on and around the stove clean. So gross! We decided to pull the stove all together and install a 2 burner Empava induction cooktop and a Oster toaster over. We now have more counter space, everything is built in and clean and we are fully electric which is perfect with our new battery upgrade and solar installation.

  3. Improved Sink and Faucet - The old sink was odd shaped and very stained. The faucet was low and it was impossible to clean our stovetop pressure cooker and the vitamix blender (my 2 most beloved tools in the kitchen). The new sink is much larger, rotated and is an under mount for increased counter space. The faucet is updated, nicer quality and higher with a pull down sprayer. The water filtration is integrated. So streamlined and beautiful.

  4. Refrigerator access - While I liked the size and efficiency of our top loading refrigerator, the access was atrocious. There were 2 side by side doors and they leaked so much air. Because of that, the refrigerator’s evaporator was continuously icing over. The doors were heavy and a pain to deal with. Now, we have 1 pull up door with a locking hinge so it stays open until I knock it shut with one arm. It’s amazing!!! And, the cooling panel isn’t icing over so I don’t have to clean and drain the refrigerator every week. Such a game changer.

  5. Drawers - We didn’t have any and now we do. We have 3 lovely drawers for silverware, kitchen utensils, towels and a deep drawer that we can use as a filing cabinet.

  6. Comfortable Seating - The settee on the boat was horrible!! Uncomfortable and just weird. We have been making improvements on the settee in stages over the past several months. We pulled the back cushion first and had smaller back pillows made instead. I have been dreaming of a center island and we were looking at removing the settee all together. However, Jason decided to pull out the table in front of the settee. We now have a small ottoman in front of the settee and it’s much better. We can now both sit comfortably and we have a nice large storage container for Jason’s camera gear and bottles of alcohol.

There are many other improvements to the galley, but those are the tops. It is a joy hanging out in our new space. I am so thankful for all of Jason’s talents. He masterminded the layout, the design and every single little detail. It is truly a work of art.
