Building a Charter Business

Pau Hana started as a love story between Jason and Mariah. Jason, a ridiculously experienced sailor and boat captain, who was frustrated with his 32 ft monohull that wasn’t comfortable in Hawaiian waters and Mariah, a complete novice and big dreamer, who had recently moved onto Jason’s 32 ft monohull. Jason knew he wanted a sail catamaran, but it just felt too big in so many ways. A catamaran is the ideal stable platform to enjoy the big Hawaiian waters and often strong Tradewinds. We started shopping for the perfect boat in 2017. After looking at thousands of catamarans virtually, traveling to the Caribbean twice, Seattle, Georgia, California and French Polynesia to look at oh so many boats in person, we had the right series of events collide to bring us to Pau Hana.

We were deep in the times of COVID at the end of 2020 and Jason had his eye on a 2009 Catana 41 owned by Dream Yacht Charters in Raiatea, French Polynesia.
